Can Chocolate Possibly be Healthy?!

By Dr. Megan Touron

It’s Valentine’s Day today, and many of us are spending it eating a lot of chocolate. Whether your chocolate is heart-shaped or not, you may be wondering if there are any health benefits to chocolate.

While chocolate isn’t necessarily a healthy food, it can offer your body some health benefits.

HERE ARE A FEW OF THE WAYS THAT CHOCOLATE CAN BENEFIT YOUR BODY:

Chocolate can help boost your mood. We all know intuitively that we feel better after eating some chocolate. But science backs this up as well, chocolate actually can improve your mood. One study specifically showed that during high-stress situations, people who consumed chocolate were in a much better mood than those who did not.

Chocolate is good for your heart. Every day, but especially on Valentine’s Day, it’s important to take good care of your heart. Chocolate has been proven to prevent blood clots and heart attacks. It also can help improve your blood flow, and your cholesterol levels!

Chocolate has anti-aging properties! One study showed that consuming chocolate can actually help with muscle elasticity and slow the aging process! So, not only will you feel better eating chocolate, but it can actually help you look better too.

Even though chocolate does have some health benefits, that doesn’t mean it’s healthy for you. Most chocolate has a lot of sugar in it, and large quantities of sugar is detrimental to your health. Make sure to enjoy your chocolate (and it’s health benefits) in moderation, and only consume small quantities.

Our team at Reach Health and Wellness Chiropractic hopes all of you have an amazing, love-filled Valentine’s Day!
