Plan Your Wellness Journey for 2022

The new year gives us all an opportunity to start fresh and improve on our daily habits and behaviors. If you haven’t thought about making a resolution yet, we’ve put together this list of Chiropractor Approved New Year Resolutions to help you kickstart your wellness journey and improve your overall health.

1. Make Healthy Food Choices

It’s no surprise that this advice is top on our list. Healthful eating has countless benefits. Eating nutritious meals will help improve your overall health. Changing your eating habits can make a big impact on your body. From supporting muscles and strengthening bones, to boosting immunity and lowering your risk for many diseases, eating whole, unprocessed foods will help to improve your overall health.

One change that you can make that will have a big impact is to read the nutrition labels. Eating foods that only contain ingredients that you can easily identify will help you make better, more nutritious choices.

2. Stay Hydrated

We’ve written about this before, but we’ll say it again and again. Your body needs water and staying hydrated helps your body to function properly. Hydration is vital to so many functions including:

  • Regulating our body temperature
  • Maintaining a healthy blood level
  • Keeping our joints and cartilage lubricated
  • Transporting oxygen-rich blood and nutrients
  • Converting food and fuel to energy
  • Removing waste through body fluids from our liver and kidneys
  • Helping us sleep better
  • Improving our mood
  • Fighting infections
  • Improving brain functions
  • And so much more!

Even if you’re not a big fan of water, there are a few ways you can make sure you are drinking more of it. First, add fruit for some extra flavor. Lemons, limes, strawberries, raspberries, cucumbers and even herbs can motivate you to drink more water during the day. You can also encourage yourself to drink more if you tie it into your routine. Drink a glass of water before every meal or even after you use the bathroom. This will help you make drinking water a habit.

3. Add Regular Exercise To Your Routine

Going to the gym and working out are always top New Year’s Resolutions- and there’s good reason. No matter what your end fitness goals are (weight loss, building muscle, or anything in between), regular exercise and physical activity offer numerous health benefits for everyone.

We know that getting and staying motivated to work out isn’t always easy. Here are a ways to make sure you’re adding physical activity to your routines:

  • Find a workout you truly enjoy. There is a workout for everyone. If you tried cross fit or a spin class and hated it, don’t give up. Just find some physical activity that you enjoy. Try walking in the park, or take a yoga or barre class. When you find something you love, you’ll be more likely to stick with it.
  • Make it convenient for you and fit it into your daily schedule. Not a morning person? Then plan a workout in the afternoon or evening instead. For some people, going to a gym close to their office makes it easier to workout. Other people may find it more convenient to workout at home. If you plan ahead, you can make working out a regular part of your schedule.

4. Work On Your Posture

This resolution is another simple change you can make to your daily routine. Good posture helps to keep your body healthy and looking its best. Good posture throughout a lifetime can keep you feeling mobile as you get older and as an added bonus, you also look younger. Some ways to improve your posture:

  • Don’t slouch at your desk. Sit all the way to the back of your chair and place your feet flat on the floor.
  • Beware of “text neck.” If you spend a lot of time on your smartphone, keeping your head tilted down can cause a lot of strain on your spine. Take time to stretch and try to bring your phone up to your eye level, rather than bringing your head to your screen.
  • Stand up tall. Pretend you’re standing against a wall to measure your height. This is a great way to prevent posture problems.Good posture for your wellness journey

5. Add Regular Chiropractic Visits To Your Self-Care Regimen

Regular chiropractic adjustments can help put your body in balance and support good posture. Adjustments to the spine offer a benefits to blood pressure, immune system, pain reduction, mental health, digestive disorders, and so much more.

While chiropractic care is highly regarded for its scientifically proven benefits in reducing back pain, it is also important to realize that preventative care is just as important. Even if you don’t have any pain, chiropractic care can provide useful preventative care, making it an ideal treatment option to add in your wellness journey.

6. Include Massage Therapy In Your Self-Care Regimen

Much like the other lifestyle suggestions we’ve mentioned, there are many benefits of getting routine massages.  While many view massages as a luxury, if you add a regular massage to your wellness journey, the easier it will be for you to maintain good health.

On top of relieving stress, massages can also help you with pain management, increasing blood flow and circulation, improve sleeping habits, and boost your mood. These are just a few reasons why you should consider adding a monthly massage to your calendar.
