A Holistic Treatment for Heartburn You Haven’t Tried!

Studies estimate that nearly 60 million Americans experience heartburn each month, with some 15 million experiencing heartburn every day!

If you’re reading this, chances are you are one of those 60 million and already know what heartburn feels like…

  • Burning in the chest or throat
  • Lasting for minutes to hours
  • Typically right after eating
  • Increased when bending over or lying down

So what causes heartburn?

Heartburn occurs when stomach acid backs up into your esophagus, the tube that carries food from your mouth to your stomach.

A lot of common foods that we eat and drink can act as irritants and stimulate a reaction.

Some examples of these would be:

  • Acidic Foods (oranges, grapefruit, etc.)
  • Carbonated Drinks
  • Caffeine
  • Chocolate
  • Alcohol

Typical Treatments for Heartburn

Treating heartburn is crucial because over time re-flux will damage the esophagus.

Typical treatments include over the counter or prescription medications and even surgery.

… But there has to be a better option.

And there is.

Chiropractic care is a holistic and incredibly effective way to treat your heartburn and acid re-flux like symptoms.

In fact, treating your spine can have an effect on almost every organ throughout the body!

(To learn more about how the spine affects each organ specifically, click here!)

So, what does my spine have to do with heartburn?

You’d be surprised!

When you have bad middle and lower back posture, your digestive organs are compressed, which prevents the body from digesting the food you eat properly.

This often leads to heartburn, acid re-flux, constipation, etc.

How Can Chiropractic Care Help?

Chiropractic care affects the spines posture by putting it back into its proper alignment.

In relation to heartburn, chiropractic physicians will be looking specifically at a persons sixth thoracic vertebra (or T6) to see if it is subluxated (or out of alignment).

The nerves that exit the T6 vertebra attach to the stomach and make sure the body is producing enough hydrochloric acid.

That acid works to break down food in the stomach, as well as making sure the two sphincters in the stomach are closing all the way, so no acid re-flux occurs.

By adjusting the spine back to it’s proper alignment, chiropractic care is able to relieve any unnecessary pressure that has been put on the related nerves, thus re-mobilizing function to the connected organs!

As a result, chiropractic adjustments can also improve other health conditions such as arthritis, headaches, ear infections, asthma, seasonal allergies, etc. all by adjusting pressure, thus improving your bodies ability to heal and integrate stress.
